A great resource that television shows now have is closed captioning. It provides that link for deaf or hard hearing individuals to now experience entertainment, news and information. In order to utilize closed captioning, by using an external decoder or by using a television with a decoder built in it. As of July 1993 all television sets are required to have a decoder built in them.
